The original campaign to reopen the Cherry Tree included pub regulars, the local M.P. at the time Ivan Henderson, parish councillors and members of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

Take the A120 Colchester to Harwich road. After about 14 miles take the 3rd exit at Ramsey Junction roundabout onto Church Hill (B1352 - signposted Clacton). At top of hill opposite Ramsey Church turn right into Mayes Lane. After about 0.5 miles turn right at T-junction onto Harwich Road (B1414). After 0.7 miles Ye Olde Cherry Tree can be found on a sharp left-hand bend.
The nearest station is Harwich International about 3 miles away. Dovercourt station is about 4 miles away. A minicab from station to pub is approximately £4.
The 104 (Monday to Saturday) and 102 (Sunday) services from Colchester pass by the door. Last bus to Colchester is 2219 (arrives Colchester 2305) Monday to Friday and 2204 (arrives Colchester 2249) on Sunday. The Village Link Service 3/4 from Clacton also passes the pub but only runs during the day.
