Harwich Town
Sailing Club is a warm friendly sailing club committed to promoting
sailing as an all round family activity in all its forms, from
championship racing to pottering about in and around the harbour
area. Over the years, the club has helped many sailors become
national and even world champions in their class.
The clubs dinghy racing program starts at the end of March and finishes
around the end of October, with the exception of the race on Boxing
Day. Most racing takes place off Harwich beach on Sunday
mornings and together with Shotley Sailing Club at Shotley on Wednesday
evenings
Apart from the racing, the sailing schedule is sprinkled with beach
days and barbeques just for fun, along with day cruises around the
picturesque Stour and Orwell rivers as well as the Walton backwaters.
In 2008 the club achieved accreditation as both an RYA Training and RYA
OnBoard Centre and offers cadet training between May and
August. The cadet training is operated by members who are RYA
qualified instructors using a large fleet of club boats, (8 Toppers, 6
Optimists, 2 Laser Picos, & 1 RS Feva).
The club has a varied social calendar, covering all sorts of activities
from social meals, quiz nights, yoga, and pantomimes.
The clubhouse has panoramic views over Harwich Harbour and includes a
well equipped galley, bar, and changing rooms including both exercise
equipment and sauna.
